This course meets the Dental Board of California’s mandated license-renewal CE requirement of responsibilities and requirements of prescribing Schedule II opioid drugs. This webinar is live and interactive.

Drs. Reb Close and Casey Grover will provide an evidence-based course on pain management and opioid prescribing in dental practice. Topics will include the responsibilities and requirements for opioid prescribing, best practices for pain management, identification and management of patients with opioid use disorder, and best practices for educating patients on safe pain management.

Participants will learn:

  • Best practices for safe pain management and the legal requirements for opioid prescribing
  • How to use multi-modal analgesia to reduce or eliminate the need for opioids
  • How to identify patients at risk for opioid addiction, and how to manage patients with opioid addiction
  • Current trends in substance use that may be seen in dental practice

Reb Close, MD:

Dr. Reb Close is board certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine. She attended medical school at UCLA and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at UCLA. She currently practices in an outpatient Addiction Medicine clinic, provides addiction care in a street-based clinic for unhoused patients, and also has a clinic in the Monterey County jail for incarcerated patients with addiction.

Casey Grover, MD:

Dr. Casey Grover is board certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He attended medical school at UCLA and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Stanford University. He currently practices in the Emergency Department at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, has an outpatient Addiction Medicine clinic, and also provides addiction care in a street-based clinic for unhoused patients.
