Dentistry has been using composite resin as a restorative material for the past 50 years but are we maximizing the success of our restorations. When we are taught in school to prepare a tooth, we use the principles set down by GV Black. These principles are based on a completely different material. We will discuss an approach that is designed for composite.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand how our preparation style and techniques needs to adapt to the properties of the material.
• Learn how changing the properties of the composite can benefit our restoration.
• Learn new techniques in restoring a preparation with composite resin.

Joel Whiteman, DDS

Dr. Whiteman is an Assistant Professor at California Northstate University College of Dental Medicine and has been serving the Land Park area of Sacramento for the last 17 years. For the past 14 years he has served in the US Army Reserve Dental Corps. In his free time, he enjoys cycling and using his smoker to cook Texas style BBQ.
